From an exomoon candidate to the evolution of galaxies and the universe, Concierto Cielos offers a journey across astronomical scales, weaving together new discoveries, live music and visual art. Performances will take place on Friday 13 November at Centro Cultural Huechuraba and Saturday 14 November at Aula Magna Usach, both at 8 pm, with free admission.

How can we imagine worlds we cannot visit, or the changes galaxies undergo over time? Four researchers actively contributing to astronomy today will share the discoveries and questions that guide their work. Their talks will enter into dialogue with original music inspired by discoveries made from Chile.

The voices of science

  • Alice Zurlo, director of the Millennium Nucleus YEMS and a faculty member at Universidad Diego Portales.
  • Valeria Olivares, a faculty member in the Department of Physics at Universidad de Santiago de Chile.
  • Alejandra Melo, a faculty member in the Department of Physics at Universidad de Santiago de Chile.
  • Yara Jaffe, deputy director of the Millennium Nucleus MINGAL and a faculty member at Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María.

Alice Zurlo will discuss the discovery of an exomoon candidate, in dialogue with Pablo Ariel López’s composition Retrato de una exoluna (Portrait of an Exomoon). Talks by Valeria Olivares, Alejandra Melo and Yara Jaffe will broaden the journey to the evolution of galaxies and the universe, connecting different scales and times in cosmic history.

Music will be performed by the Orquesta Concierto Cielos and the duo Du Octantis. Their performances will bring Pablo Ariel López’s compositions to life, creating, alongside the talks, a space to listen to and imagine the phenomena explored by astronomy.

Visual artist Alvaro Pavez Cataldo will provide the concert’s visuals, connecting astronomical images and data with the music and talks. His work is an essential part of the Concierto Cielos experience, where sound and image open up new ways to explore and imagine the universe.

Concierto Cielos is supported by the Faculty of Science at Universidad de Santiago de Chile, the CIRAS Center and the Millennium Nucleus on Young Exoplanets and their Moons (YEMS), in collaboration with Extensión Usach. Ten years after its first official concert, the project continues to cultivate an encounter between art, science and community.
